RAM Prices Are Going Up — Planning a PC Upgrade?

Hi Coastal Community,

Here’s a bonus post for the day!

Heads up if you’re planning a PC build or RAM upgrade before or after Christmas — RAM prices are climbing significantly right now.

There are several factors putting pressure on the memory market. Major manufacturers such as Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron are directing significant production capacity towards high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other memory products used in AI and data-centre applications. This is putting pressure on the supply of conventional consumer DDR4 and DDR5 memory.

What does that mean for you?

  • 💾 Some 32GB DDR5 kits are considerably more expensive than they were previously.
  • 📉 DDR4 is becoming harder to find as manufacturers wind down older production lines.
  • 📦 Popular memory kits can sell out quickly, making it harder to find the exact kit you want.
  • 💰 Prices can vary considerably between brands, capacities, and retailers.

If you’ve already got a PC build or upgrade on your list, it may be worth looking at your RAM requirements sooner rather than later. If you know exactly what you need and find a good price from a reputable retailer, waiting may not necessarily work in your favour.

That said, there’s no need to panic-buy. If you’re unsure what RAM your computer needs, or whether an upgrade is actually worthwhile, get some advice before spending your money.

🎄 And while you’re here, please consider following the RD3 Tech Facebook page. I’ll be presenting a tech-themed Advent Calendar right here on the RD3 Tech Facebook page, with a new technology-related post throughout December.

💾 Keeping Your Data Safe

Hi Coastal Community!

It’s been too long since we last spoke. Things have been very busy here at RD3 Tech over the last few weeks!

Summer is on its way and the year is certainly cracking on. With another busy year coming to a close, now is a good time to stop and think about something that is easy to overlook — backing up your important data.

Photos, documents, business records, family memories and all the other files we rely on can be lost surprisingly easily through a failed hard drive, damaged computer, accidental deletion, theft or even a nasty bit of malware.

A good rule of thumb is to have two different copies of your important data, with at least one copy kept somewhere else.

Even having a single reliable backup is a huge improvement and can make a world of difference when something goes wrong.

Above all… keep your data safe!

If you’re not sure whether your backups are working properly, or you’d like some advice on the best way to protect your data, get in touch. I’m always happy to have a chat and point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your continued support!
